The case of a 14-year-old girl who was murdered and gang raped, has started in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court.
|||A 14-year-old boy, charged with his older brother and another man with the gang rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in a cemetery, was granted bail in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The schoolboy was granted bail of R1 000 by magistrate Reard Abrahams. The boy indicated that he intends pleading not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutor Sally Singh said that the State was opposing bail for the youngster’s 17-year old-brother and their 20-year-old co-accused, who cannot be named until he has pleaded to the rape charge.
The three are accused of gang-raping and then murdering Mabongile Xaba in the Mountain Rise cemetery on July 30 last year, and of stealing her cellphone.
The 17-year-old youth faces two additional charges of murder and robbery arising from an incident in which a man was stabbed to death and robbed of his cellphone on November 5. - Daily News
