A judge has issued an arrest warrant against a man who failed to pitch for his trial involving his estranged wife’s murder.

Judge Jacqui Henriques revoked Terrence Govender’s bail in the Durban High Court, last week.

Govender of Stepford Place, Phoenix, was alleged to have stabbed Kubie Govender multiple times in the chest and back on October 31, 2009. A few days before she was murdered, Kubie had obtained a protection order against Govender.

This is not the first time that Govender had treated his trial lightly, said Henriques.

In September last year Govender’s previous counsel, advocate MM Mthembu, told the court that apart from not paying his instructing attorney’s fees, Govender had shown little interest in consulting him to prepare for the trial.

The court heard Mthembu had done everything required to obtain the accused’s instructions and that he had asked the attorney to visit Govender at his home so that Mthembu could consult with him.

When the attorney visited Govender’s home he was told that the accused was not there.

Police have appealed to anyone who knows Govender’s whereabouts to contact the investigating officer Warrant Officer Raymond Munsamy from the Phoenix Police Station at 073 050 4909. - Post
