Three alleged rapists have been arrested following the gang rape of a 24-year-old woman in the Eastern Cape.
|||Johannesburg - Three alleged rapists have been arrested in Dutywa in the Eastern Cape, police said on Monday.
“Three suspects, [a] 22-year-old and two [others] aged 18 have been arrested following the gang rape of a 24-year-old woman at Sofuthe location, Ngcingwane village in Dutywa,” said Captain Jackson Manatha.
The woman was sleeping with two other people in a shack on Sunday when the men allegedly attacked her. She was taken to another shack where she was repeatedly raped.
“The suspects allegedly took turns in raping the victim but she identified one of them,” he said.
After the incident was reported at the Dutywa police station, police responded swiftly and managed to arrest all three at their homes in Ngcingwane village.
“The suspects will appear before the Dutywa Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on rape charges,” said Manatha.
