A child and his friends were playing when they were attacked by an angry swarm of bees in Pietermaritzburg.
|||An attempt by a group of children to try to chase a swarm of bees from its hive resulted in the death of a six-year-old boy on Sunday.
The boys were playing in a field in France Location, Pietermaritzburg, when they tried to smoke the bees out of the hive with fire in an attempt to steal the honey. The angry swarm attacked the group.
The dead boy sustained multiple bee stings to his face and body.
A police source said the boy’s body was only discovered on Monday by his mother when she returned from an overnight trip.
The other children apparently fled the scene, unaware that their friend had been attacked.
