|||Johannesburg - An 80-year-old pensioner living next to a KwaZulu-Natal country club is taking court action because his house is being bombarded with golf balls, the Sunday Times reports.
Albert Dobie told the newspaper that for three years he has had to guard against golf balls smashing into the roof, windows, and glass sliding door of his R3 million house in Ballito Gardens.
It adjoins Umhlali Country Club on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.
“It often feels as though it's raining golf balls, especially on weekends.”
Dobie told the Sunday Times he had to wear a construction hard hat when working in the garden, and has had guests in his swimming pool nearly knocked out by flying golf balls.
“We are afraid to use our own garden... Friends and family are afraid to visit. We can't have people over for outdoor activities or functions,” said Dobie.
He said his 14-year-old granddaughter had made about R7000 by collecting the balls in the garden and selling them to golfers for R3 each.
Dobie has begun court action to get the tees moved.
Club manager John Boyce told the Sunday Times that the country club and homeowners' association had been “at pains” to address Dobie's concerns.
“Dobie has, however, not been satisfied.” - Sapa
