|||Durban - The ANC's chairman in Estcourt's Umtshezi township has been shot dead, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.
Sibusiso Majola was gunned down on Saturday around 8pm, at the Emahhashini soccer field, Captain Thulani Zwane said.
It was not known how many men were involved in the murder. The motive for the killing was not known. Two men, aged 20 and 35, were arrested on Saturday night and would appear in the Estcourt Magistrate's Court soon.
The African National Congress condemned the shooting.
“The ANC is shocked by this shameful attack. We condemn it and we urge our law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are successfully prosecuted,” provincial spokesman Senzo Mkhize said.
The party was concerned about the killing of its leaders in the area.
“In August last year, our ward councillor in Umtshezi municipality, Jimmy Lembede, was shot dead and his 11-year-old son badly assaulted,” he said. - Sapa
