Police are searching for a one-month-old infant, taken from Ladysmith.
|||KwaZulu-Natal police are on the hunt for a woman who's believed to have kidnapped a one-month-baby, from Ladysmith.
According to Captain Thulani Zwane, the woman pretended to be an employee of the Home Affairs Department. She approached mothers of infants, with hoax offers from the department to provide them with a child grant.
“She (the suspect) introduced herself as Thandela Ndlovu from Ezakheni A-Section, near Mndeni Store,” said Zwane.
It's believed Ndlovu managed to convince one mother to go with her on Monday afternoon, to get the fake grant and then, offering to feed the baby, went for a walk to fetch food and never returned.
“After a few minutes the mother became worried and went in search of the woman, but she and the baby were nowhere to be found.”
Zwane said Ndlovu was wearing a yellow T-shirt with the label “Identity” printed on the front.
“She had on a navy jean skirt and multi-coloured shoes. She wore long earrings and had a big ring on her right hand ring finger. Her hair was short and her face had pimples on it. She was of a medium build and had a fair complexion. She was driving a silver grey car ,” he said.
The baby boy, whose name is Mlondi Thwala was last wearing a yellow vest with a yellow top over that. He had on a lime coloured waterproof and powder blue legging pants over the waterproof.
