Nine school children are among 18 commuters who were injured in a taxi accident in Pietermaritzburg.
|||Emergency services rushed to the aid of 18 people -- nine of whom where school children -- after the minibus taxi they were travelling in, overturned in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday morning.
ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks said the accident happened at Azaila township. He said four people were seriously hurt with neck and back injuries, while the remaining 14 had minor to moderate injuries.
“ER24, EMRS and the local Fire Department arrived on the scene and found the taxi on its side and lying up an embankment. “
Banks said paramedics assessed the severely injured patients who were treated on scene with specialised boards to help protect their spines from further damage.
The patients were taken to Edendale Hospital for further medical intervention, he said. - IOL
