AmaZulu Football Club was crowned KZN Newsmaker of the Year, beating the Durban couple held in Somalia for two years.
|||Durban - AmaZulu Football Club, who celebrated their 80th anniversary earlier this year and clashed with English giants Manchester United, were crowned KwaZulu-Natal Newsmaker of the Year on Wednesday night.
The Durban club beat fellow nominees the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP17), Save the Rhino KZN and Vera Hecht, who negotiated the release of her brother Bruno Pelizzari and his partner, Deborah Calitz, from Somali pirates.
The event, hosted by the Durban University of Technology Journalism Advisory Board, is held annually and identifies KZN-linked people or events that made headlines and shaped the news from June one year to June the next.
AmaZulu spokesman Philani Mabaso, who received the award at the city hall event, said the award would definitely motivate the club. - The Mercury
